External Wall Insulation Systems have been used successfully for over forty years in the US. It is cladding for exterior walls, that is light weight, flexible, durable and adds energy saving insulation to the external walls of a home. The external wall insulation insulation can be shaped to easily provide architectural details.
With Wall Insulation Grants available through the SEI (up to €4000 for External Wall Insulation), now has never been a better time to upgrade your home insulation.
External Insulation involves fixing insulating materials such as mineral wool or
expanded polystyrene slabs to the outer surface of the wall. The insulation is then
covered with a special render to provide weather resistance. A steel or fibreglass
mesh is embedded in this render to provide strength and impact resistance.
External Insulation is an expensive solution(can be help with a Wall Insulation Grant); however additional problems (other
than poor levels of insulation) suffered by some homes such as rain penetration,
poor airtightness or frost damage can be solved by an external wall insulation system,
provided that the product is NSAI Agrément certified.

Advantages of External Wall Insulation
With 35-45% of heat lost through the walls on ' hard to treat' and solid wall homes, the application of a Parex external wall insulation (EWI) system will provide a number of positive benefits to the building occupants:
Lower fuel bills: The installation of an external wall insulation system has a 'thermal jacketing' effect that causes heat energy losses through the external wall to be reduced. High levels of energy efficiency can be achieved over other forms of insulation resulting in savings on energy bills, especially where other measures are not suitable (non-cavity/solid wall properties). An average semi-detached home could typically save €400 - €500 per year on fuel costs
A Parex EWI or render system protects the building fabric from the worst excesses of the weather and allows damp structures to dry out. As a result, the building can expect a longer useful lifetime
An external wall insulation system when detailed correctly overcomes the effects of cold bridging, thereby eliminating condensation and dampness
The original wall construction can be used as a heat store. This thermal mass helps to reduce temperature fluctuations and maintains a more comfortable internal environment
Systems are durable and cost effective and can improve the appearance of older buildings
Application can take place without disruption to the occupants and there is no reduction in interior living or working space
External Wall Insulation - Many Textures & Colours
There are a vast choice of finish textures and colors available. The continuous reinforced lamina over the external insulation makes this a face-sealed system. Standard and Optimum EWIS do not require a weather or moisture resistive barrier behind them because they are a facesealed cladding. Windows, doors and other objects do pass through the exterior wall. Proper flashing and sealants at those penetrations effectively protect the entire assembly from exterior water penetration.
Environmentally Friendly External Wall Insulation
All the components of the Exterior Wall Insulation are also user and environmentally friendly. All the liquid and paste materials are water based. This chemistry provides a vapor permeable, breathable, exterior that will allow incidental water in an exterior wall assembly to easily dry out.
Most Effective Method of Wall Insulation
EWIS have been available in Ireland for some years now, they were originally developed as a method for upgrading system build housing, but their advantages have become recognised for a much broader range of applications, for overtime what has become evident is that insulating a wall externally can be the most efficient way of keeping heat inside a building, this is because external wall insulation is the most effective way of eliminating interstitial condensation.
Reduce Your heating Bills with External Wall Insulation
You can achieve a reduced heat loss of up to 60% and conversely your heating bill can be reduced by a similar amount by installing an External Wall Insulation System. In short, EWIS are a modern method of construction that will:
Insulate a building
Eliminate condensation
Shed water
Stabilise the structure
Help reduce noise
Provide a decorative finish
Provide a highly economical solution
About Parex External Wall Insulation
Parex is the EIFS(Exterior Insulation Finishing System) industry leader in North
America. As a pillar in the industry Parex has been
instrumental in contributing to the advancement
of EIFS and has developed many technological
breakthroughs that are still in use today. Parex
prides itself on delivering the best products in the
market and continuously looks for ways to improve
and develop products for the future.
Why Exterior Wall Insulation?
Parex Exterior Wall Insulation is the right cladding for the day and
age we live in. Energy costs are increasing and
are expected to do so for the foreseeable future.
Building owners want a beautiful building with
materials that allow them to operate the building
efficiently. Parex EIFS is the solution that answers
the need.
External Wall Insulation - Superior Energy Efficiency
Parex External Wall Insulation offers superior energy efficiency
and has an advantage over most exterior
claddings. This benefit is delivered by placing a
continuous layer of insulation on the outside of
the building providing a superior u-value and
greater energy savings.
Exterior Wall Insulation - Superior u-Value
Simply defined, The U value measures how quickly it loses heat so the lower the U value, the less energy you need to keep your home warm.
Independent tests at the U.S. Department of Energy’s, Oak Ridge National
Laboratory, prove that External Insulation has superior
u-value in relation to other leading external wall insulation When it comes to considering how
an exterior cladding can impact your buildings
operating cost, Parex Exterior Wall Insulation is the smart choice!
Exterior Wall Insulation Advantages
Less Thermal Breaks
When EIFS is used on the outside
of the building, studs don’t break
the continuity of the insulation. In
essence, the building is covered by
a blanket of insulation. This is an
additional advantage over other types
of cladding. Thermal breaks caused
by studs provide an opportunity for
energy to flow in and out of the
building. Climate controlled air
escapes and uncontrolled air invades
the building, requiring the building’s
HVAC system to work harder to
maintain the desired air temperature
and therefore costing you money.
Dew Point
When warm air meets a cold surface
the result can be condensation. This is
commonly seen on the outside on the
glass of a cold beverage. The location
where the condensation occurs is
called the dew point. While not an
issue on a drinking glass, this same
phenomenon becomes an issue when
it occurs inside your wall assembly.
Traditional claddings may lead to
condensation inside the wall cavity,
potentially causing deterioration
and damage of building materials.
Parex EIFS potentially reduces the
risk of a dew point inside the wall
cavity. Moving the insulation to the
outside of the building keeps surfaces
inside the wall cavity warm so that
condensation does not form on them.
Versatile Design
All the functionality that Parex External Wall Insulation delivers does
not come at the price of aesthetics. Quite simply,
Parex Exterior Insulation is the most versatile exterior cladding on
the market today. The ability to effectively mimic
the look of virtually any exterior cladding and an
unlimited range of textures, colors, and shapes allows
multiple designs utilizing the same exterior cladding.
Low Maintenance
Parex uses the highest quality raw materials for
all of its products. This commitment to quality ensures
that the materials on your building will perform as
designed for a long time. Parex Exterior Wall Insulation also uses 100%
acrylic polymers with special dirt resistant surface
toughness in its finishes. This and mildew and algae
resistant additives approved by the Environmental
Protection Agency limit the impact that dirt, mildew,
mold, and other pollutants can have on your Parex
finish, ensuring that the aesthetic appeal of your
building will stand up to the elements.
The Parex Wall Insulation is easily cleaned with a low power
pressure washer and mild detergent. This simple
maintenance step increases the life of the Wall Insulation while
refreshing the beauty of your building.
Light Weight
Parex External Wall Insulation is a high value exterior cladding. This
lightweight system provides an opportunity to
reduce investment in structural components that may
be required for heavier cladding alternatives, thus
lowering building costs.
